Production studio Wavelength has officially announced its sponsorship of the Yellow Springs Film Festival. Here’s what we know from their press release:

On Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 1:45 PM ET, Wavelength will collaborate with YSFF to present the inaugural WAVE Grant showcase, featuring short films by WAVE Grant alumni. The lineup includes works such as Ana Verde’s Te Llaman Las Olas (The Waves Call You), Geena Hernandez’s Chicks, Sofia and Andrea Riba’s American Girl, Hannah Patterson’s Late to the Party, Amanda Gordon’s Sugar Honey, Leena Kurishingal’s No Escape, and Neha Aziz’s So, That Happened. Following the screenings, a panel discussion will take place, moderated by Brenda Robinson, Wavelength’s Head of Multicultural Initiatives & Strategic Partnerships and Film Independent Board Chair. She will be joined by Jenifer Westphal, Ana Verde, and Geena Hernandez.

The event is set to take place at the historic Little Art Theatre, recently highlighted in national news after Yellow Springs resident and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steve Bognar directed an eight-minute video that helped secure a $100,000 grant for the venue.

“In 2023, less than 2% of films were directed by minority women,” stated Wavelength Producer and Grant Manager, Taylor Wildenhaus. “We are continually exploring new ways to enhance the WAVE Grant and enable more first-time BIPOC women and non-binary filmmakers to share their narratives. By presenting these films to a live audience, we not only highlight talent— we cultivate a community that embraces diverse storytelling.”

The WAVE Grant, which stands for “Women at the Very Edge,” aims to support first-time women and non-binary filmmakers of color in creating their debut short narrative films. The grant includes $5,000, along with mentorship throughout the film’s development, production, and post-production phases, plus guidance in fundraising and distribution strategies.
