Here’s everything you need to know about this much-awaited series.

What is the release date for Kay Kay Menon’s Murshid on ZEE5?

Murshid is set to premiere on ZEE5 on August 30, 2024. This eight-episode series is directed by Shravan Tiwari and produced by Sandeep Patel. The recently released trailer provides a thrilling glimpse into the show’s dark and intense narrative, combining elements of crime, action, and high-stakes drama, guaranteeing an engaging binge-watch.

The trailer for Murshid introduces a gripping tale featuring Kay Kay Menon as Murshid Pathan, a once-powerful gangster who has left his criminal past behind. However, he is pulled back into the perilous world of crime when his old foe, Farid (Zakir Hussain), involves Murshid’s son in a dangerous plot.

As Murshid re-enters the criminal underworld to protect his family, he encounters a web of betrayal involving Inspector Kumar Pratap Rana (Tanuj Virvani), who is also his adopted son. Kumar finds himself under the manipulation of the devious politician Jayendra (Rajesh Shringarpure). The escalating tension in the plot raises the stakes as Murshid fights to secure his legacy from imminent danger, famously declaring, “Don’t be fooled by the wrinkles on my face—I will finish you!”

According to The Tribune, Menon commented, “The trailer just scratches the surface of his journey. It’s a relatable story of how far a father can go for the sake of his family. I can’t wait for audiences to experience Murshid’s full story.”

The series is produced by Fathom Pictures and Pramukh Film Production House, featuring music by Kunal Karan. Shravan Tiwari not only directs but also pens the series.

Murshid cast: Kay Kay Menon, Tanuj Virvani, and more

Alongside Kay Kay Menon, Murshid features a remarkable cast including Tanuj Virvani as Kumar Pratap Rana, Zakir Hussain as Murshid’s foe Farid, and Rajesh Shringarpure as the conniving politician Jayendra. Anang Desai also plays a significant role in this ensemble.

Menon expressed his enthusiasm about portraying this character. As reported by The Tribune, he remarked, “Playing Murshid Pathan in this intense gangster thriller was an exhilarating experience for me. I’ve always been attracted to complex characters, and Murshid embodies that—he’s a former don turned philanthropist, drawn back into the underworld to safeguard his family.”

Zakir Hussain also shared valuable insights about the show’s authenticity in a recent interview. He elaborated that while the series draws inspiration from Mumbai’s underworld, it is fundamentally a work of fiction. “This is a fictional story inspired by Mumbai’s history,” Hussain explained. “While I’ve participated in various underworld narratives, this is a unique fictional tale.”

He further added, “At pivotal moments, the characters clash on a personal level, forcing them to rearm after they believed they had left that life behind.” Hussain also mentioned that the series will explore the interplay between the underworld and politics, illustrating how individuals become entangled in these worlds, strive within them, and are ultimately pulled back in.

Tanuj Virvani, who plays Murshid’s adopted son, offered a sneak peek into his character. “Kumar Pratap Rana is caught between conflicting loyalties. After losing his biological parents, he was raised by Murshid but is devastated when he suspects Murshid’s connection to his tragic past. Despite his struggles, Kumar’s affection for his adoptive father remains unwavering. The series poignantly delves into themes of loyalty, family, and internal conflict,” he explained.

Virvani further remarked, “Being part of Murshid has been an incredible journey, especially alongside such gifted actors as Kay Kay Menon and Zakir Hussain.”

With the release date of August 30 drawing near, excitement for the forthcoming series continues to grow.
