What just happened?
Melina Alves has a different take: Not happening!
This week, Samantha Cope initiated divorce proceedings from Joey Lawrence, marking his third marriage that has ended unsuccessfully.
Cope has cited irreconcilable differences for their separation after two years of marriage and is seeking full custody of their 19-month-old daughter, Dylan, allowing Lawrence visitation rights at her discretion.
Reports suggest that Cope believes the marriage ended due to Lawrence’s alleged affair with Alves, his co-star in the film Socked in for Christmas.
In response, Alves has addressed these allegations directly.
“To clarify, there was no sexual relationship between Joey and me while we were on set for Socked in for Christmas,” Alves stated on Instagram.
“Our connection was a genuine friendship that naturally developed because we shared similar circumstances.”
She further expressed that she was “deeply impressed by his kindness and sincerity,” noting that their friendship grew from their common experiences, providing mutual support.
Despite this, Alves emphasized that there was no romantic involvement between them.
Providing more context to the situation, Alves revealed that she and her ex-husband, Edward Rider, have been estranged since January 2023 and had been living separately during that time.
“Our marriage had faced difficulties for a while, and the separation was necessary for both of us,” she noted.
She expressed her desire for privacy, stating: “It is incredibly painful to see such personal matters made public, causing distress not only to me but also to Joey, who has been unfairly involved in this situation.”
Alves also mentioned that she had secured a temporary restraining order against Rider. She concluded her message with a plea for privacy:
“Please understand and respect our privacy as we navigate these trying times. This is a private matter that I never wanted to publicize, and I hope this clarification can end the speculation, allowing both Joey and me to move forward without further interference.”
