Authorities in Burbank have completed their investigation into claims made by an L.A. City councilman that they left a homeless individual in his backyard. The police state they found no evidence of misconduct.
The Burbank Police Department recently clarified that the individual involved in the June incident was not, in fact, homeless, contrary to claims made by L.A. City councilman Paul Krekorian.
According to police, the individual has been renting a room in Sylmar for several years. He had requested a ride from Burbank to North Hollywood, which led to his presence outside Krekorian’s office.
As reported earlier, surveillance footage seemingly depicts two officers escorting a man out of the back of their patrol vehicle, who appears to be either shouting or talking to himself before being let down on the road.
The officers allegedly left the man there and drove away. Subsequently, Krekorian asserted that they had dropped a homeless person in his district to avoid dealing with him in their own area.
Krekorian has since called for a comprehensive investigation, and the Burbank Police Department has now indicated that their inquiry has concluded with no findings of wrongdoing.
Investigating officers have reported that they have been exonerated through an internal review, and that the FBI has also assessed the situation without taking any further action against the Burbank Police Department.
The police state that the individual was never detained nor in custody, emphasizing that he was released from the vehicle upon his request.
When the incident occurred in June, sources indicated that police had received a call about a naked man sitting on a bench, with responding officers providing him with clothing and a ride, as he had requested.
We reached out to Krekorian for a response, but have not yet heard back.
