Rebecca Ferguson is set to join the cast of the film adaptation of The Magic Faraway Tree. This movie is inspired by the beloved children’s book by Enid Blyton, which is the second installment in a series of four. The enchanting narrative unfolds in a magical forest featuring a massive tree that stretches its tallest branches into the clouds and houses within its trunk. The story will follow Polly (played by Claire Foy) and Tim Thompson (portrayed by Andrew Garfield), who move to the secluded English countryside with their three children, only to stumble upon the tree.
As reported by Deadline, Ferguson joins Foy and Garfield under the direction of Ben Gregor. Although specific details remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that Ferguson will take on the role of Dame Snap, a headmistress recognized as one of Blyton’s most memorable villains. Previously known as Dame Slap, Dame Snap operates a school for mischievous pixies and is characterized as both aggressive and delightfully entertaining.
Dame Snap: A Colorful Addition to Ferguson’s Career
A New Kind of Villain for Ferguson
Ferguson continues to be a highly sought-after actress, with several exciting projects lined up for both film and streaming platforms. Among her notable upcoming works is the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders movie featuring Cillian Murphy. Additionally, she stars in Mercy alongside Chris Pratt and will feature in an untitled Netflix film directed by Kathryn Bigelow. She is also set to reprise her role as Juliette Nichols in the second season of Apple TV+’s Silo.
Ferguson’s breakthrough came in 2015 with her compelling performance as Ilsa Faust in Mission Impossible — Rogue Nation, where she portrayed a determined and resourceful femme fatale. Her success led to roles in two subsequent Mission: Impossible films, showcasing her talent in action genres. However, she has explored various genres, including sci-fi with Dune, horror in Doctor Sleep, and musicals like The Greatest Showman.
It’s noteworthy that Ferguson’s singing talent was not showcased in The Greatest Showman, which also featured Hugh Jackman, Zendaya, and Zac Efron.
In The Magic Faraway Tree, Ferguson will once again embrace a villainous role, following her portrayal of Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep. However, her character Dame Snap is expected to embody a more whimsical and fantastical villain, akin to those from early Harry Potter films. Given that Ferguson typically gravitates towards more mature narratives, it will be intriguing to witness her transformation into a family-friendly antagonist with the potential for mischievous moments. With her proven ability to deliver remarkable performances, expectations are high for her role in The Magic Faraway Tree.
